Gerald Gomani is a development leader, strategic planning practitioner and participatory facilitation specialist with extensive experience supporting organisations, communities and institutions to develop shared vision, strengthen leadership and translate strategy into practical action.

He is associated with the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) Zimbabwe and the wider international ICA network, contributing to the advancement of participatory approaches to human, organisational and community development. His work is grounded in the belief that sustainable development is strongest when people are not simply beneficiaries of development programmes, but active participants in defining problems, developing solutions and taking ownership of results.

Gerald's core area of expertise is the Technology of Participation (ToP)™ — a structured facilitation methodology that enables diverse groups to think together, build consensus, make effective decisions and develop actionable strategies. He applies ToP™ in strategic planning, organisational development, stakeholder engagement, team building, conferencing, leadership development and change management.

Over the years, Gerald has worked across development contexts involving NGOs, government institutions, businesses, communities, churches and other civil-society organisations globally. His approach combines participatory facilitation with strategic thinking, enabling organisations to move beyond conventional consultation towards genuine participation, collective ownership and implementation.

Building Local Capacity in Africa

A major focus of Gerald's work is building local facilitation capacity in Africa. He is particularly interested in developing sustainable, fee-based ToP systems that can create a pool of competent facilitators capable of supporting organisations and communities long after externally funded projects have ended. His vision is to strengthen facilitation as a professional development resource across African countries, including Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, Botswana and other countries in the region.

Gerald is also passionate about increasing the participation of women and young people in decision-making spaces. He promotes facilitative leadership approaches that enable emerging leaders to contribute meaningfully to organisational, community and national development.

"People support what they help create."
